Estimated total car cost—
What does this car cost calculator include?
It combines estimated fuel use with the recurring ownership costs you enter. This makes it useful for comparing cars, planning a household budget or checking whether a cheaper-to-buy vehicle is actually cheaper to run.
Formula
Annual fuel cost = kilometres ÷ 100 × L/100km × fuel price. Annual ownership cost adds registration, insurance, servicing, finance and other costs.
Costs you may also want to allow for
- Tyres, parking, tolls and roadside assistance.
- Depreciation or loss in resale value.
- Unexpected repairs, especially on older vehicles.
- Higher fuel use when towing, driving in traffic or making short trips.
